Constructing Female Orgasm in Selected Internet Media

The media form an integral part of our everyday life and have a significant impact on how we perceive, understand and construct reality, our part in it and our own identity. This diploma thesis is therefore concerned with the portrayal of the female orgasm in selected internet media that are aimed primarily at women. Through an analysis of selected internet articles, I show that an orgasm is not (just) a biological phenomenon, but it is more a discursive construct. At the same time, I introduce the ways the media help to (re)produce a common idea of what the female orgasm is, how to experience it, and what the consequences are of (not) experiencing it. On the one hand, the analysed media create an impression of a certain sexual emancipation of women; they stress a woman's right for sexual pleasure and orgasm. On the other hand, the way the topic of female orgasm is described creates a kind of universal formula for doing and experiencing sexuality. Despite declaring plurality and diversity, the media in fact create clearly defined boundaries and marginalize those who do not fit. The Birth of Cyber as a National Security Agenda

The following dissertation studies the question how cyber security has become a national security agenda and discusses implications of the observed processes to current international security status quo. I divided the research into three parts. The first part embodies theoretical and methodological approach. The second part studies three distinct discourses related to cyber security, the techno-geek discourse, the crime-espionage discourse and the nation-defense discourse using the method of Michel Foucault about archaeology of knowledge. The third part then draws on these three discourses and discusses implications through lens of several theoretical perspectives. Namely through concepts taken from science and technology studies, from actor network theory and network assemblages. The critical point of the research is a distinct reading of these discourses. While techno-geeks are understood as a source of semiosis, hackers' capability and crypto-anarchy ideology influenced by cyberpunk subculture, the cyber-crime and espionage discourse is read as a source of evidence of the hackers' capability. Word and Image in Czech and Slovak Art in the 50's and 60's of 20th Century

(in English) This dissertation paper deals with the transformation of the relationship letter and image in the Czechsoslovakian art in the 1950s and 1960s, interpreted from the point of view of the cultural and social events not as the history of art, but history of reality representation. The objective of the paper is to create a more complex view of various levels of integration of letter and image in domestic environment, so it approaches the phenomena of letter and image from a specific interpretation point of view based on three main lines. Mapping the phenomena of letter and image in the context of that period in Czechoslovakia, which preceded work structuralizing, was the base of the first interpretation line which bases the core of work on four social "activators", which, in the mind of an artist, activated the need to incarnate letter and image. Since the subject of the paper is the letter as a material manifestation of the language, the second interpretations line follows the purposeful modification of the language structure between the signifiant and signifié, which occurs in visual imaging. Queer geografie sexualit: sociokulturní organizace sexualit v prostoru a (de)konstrukce heteronormativity.

Geographies of sexualities started to develop within the Anglo-American academic context during the late 1980s. In the 1990s, propelled by the cultural turn, the swelling of post-structuralist and postmodern critiques, and a growing recognition of the limitations to scientific knowledge production and representation, geographers of sexualities introduced queer theory into human geography. Queer theory provided human geography with powerful tools for approaching not only straightforward spatialities of sexualities, but this new lens contributed to the development of human geographies as such. Currently, at least in the Anglo-Saxon geographical context, the field of geographies of sexualities is considered part of mainstream human geography. Therefore, the main goal of this thesis is to provide a few lines of reasoning for the development of geographies of sexualities in Czechia and Central Eastern Europe (CEE) and introduction of post-structuralist understandings, specifically queer theory. American "Foreign Policy" in Film

Hays II American "Foreign Policy" in Film Abstract This work takes David Campbell's concept of "foreign policy," as applied to American elite identifiers, and expands its application to sub-elite identifiers as well. As with Campbell's analysis of American identity, the common context is international conflicts where the United States is a participant. The discourse of the elite is represented by State of the Union Addresses covering the times of the conflicts, while the sub-elite discourse is represented by major war films about those same conflicts. While Campbell's argument implies that there should be a common resultant identification of the elite and sub-elite identifiers, this is not the case. Across time, conflicts, and administrations, the elite identifications stress hierarchy and order, as was also concluded by Campbell. Across time, conflicts, and productions, the sub-elite identifications stress proximity of experience and right action. The identifications of the two groups, while both laying claim to the identity of "America", are in conflict with each other. Questioning Gender Through the Test of History: the Fiction of Jeanette Winterson and Ali Smith

This thesis focuses on the work of two contemporary authors, Ali Smith and Jeanette Winterson, and their treatment of the concepts of history and gender in their fiction. I argue that, by openly speculating about the nature of time and history, and by making their readers think about the origin of these notions, Smith and Winterson uncover the seemingly stable but, in actuality, very fragile roots of the 'truths' we take for granted. They explore the potentiality of the past, which, in turn opens up the present and the future. To support my argument, I turned to Hayden White and his theory of historiography and Paul Ricoeur's philosophy of time and history. The latter part of the thesis deals with gender, as well as biological sex and sexual orientation, and the way in which Smith and Winterson's texts put into practice Judith Butler's theory of gender performativity, and work towards the subversion of gender norms as well as the destabilisation of heteronormativity. Both parts of the thesis are closely connected; history serves to keep the laws that define gender, sex and sexuality intact, and, in turn, these laws are often adhered to solely by the virtue of their historicity. The Female Voice in Contemporary Theory

This BA thesis aims to inform Czech musicological circles about the current theoretical debate on female voice. Employing the method of close reading, the author introduces selected texts and reflections on the female voice, using phenomenology, feminist theory or psychoanalysis as a theoretical background. Last, but not least, the thesis provides an impetus to think about female voice in the context of contemporary music, which, with its frequent use of vocalisation without lyrics, is especially pertinent to the aforementioned debate. Language and its Horizon in Czech Contemporary Art

This paper proposes to explore language as an expressing medium for contemporary czech artists. Many of them uses analogical creation ways as the experimental poets did in the sixties. First part of this paper focuses on terms of semilogy and post-structuralistic philosophy and their influence over expressions of artists from range of experimental poetry. It is going put the accent mainly on their art invetnions, that have impact untill today. From this experience, the endeavour of contemporary artists origins to determinate, or cross the borders of their own expressing abilities. Based on analysis of selected czech contemporary artworks, the second part of this paper will try to describe the search of horizont of language as an expressing medium for contemporary czech artists.

Biopower and autonomism

Martin Poppr : Biopower and autonomism (abstract of bachelor thesis) The main subject of the thesis is the relationship between an individual and the society. My goal is to find out the origin of the social authority, society cares, and the society control. My work will as well question the relationship between the knowledge and the power, and if both of them are in some way relied to the violence. My work will be based in the philosophy of Michel Foucault, his archeology of knowledge and his studies of the society. I will try to find out how is the knowledge defined by its own discourse. The discourse is a special form of a social power. I will focus my work on the question, how is every human being influenced by the social power and the power of discourse. I will also stay focused on the topic reading few more authors. I will follow Gilles Deleuze developing Foucault's concept of "bio-power", leading us from the age of "Enlightenment" to the present. Foucault himself finds as a good way, how to study the power, to study the forms of the political resistance. That is why I will also focus my attention on the philosophy of "autonomism".
